The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, Annual Membership with the Fast Identity Online Alliance (FIDO), a U.S.-based industry consortium and a not-for-profit, for the period of 01/01/2020 – 12/31/2020.
Sole source determination is based on the need for membership in the Fast Identity Online Alliance (FIDO), an open industry association with a focused mission: authentication standards to help reduce the world’s over-reliance on passwords.
Secure online identity credentials are critical to overall cybersecurity goals. The Applied Cybersecurity Division maintains guidance on Secure Digital Identities (NIST SP 800-63) as part of its portfolio of guidance on cybersecurity related subjects. The FIDO Alliance is unique in its area of focus, international reach, and the number of key organizations participating on specifications relevant to federated identity management. FIDO's standards have received widespread adoption.
